Italian-American longshoreman Eddie Carbone has made a life for himself in 1950s Brooklyn, working the docks to support his wife Beatrice and their orphaned niece, Catherine. When Beatrice’s impoverished cousins arrive as illegal immigrants from Italy, he is honored to take them into his home. But when Catherine begins to fall in love with one of them, Eddie grows increasingly jealous and agitated, precipitating his searing act of betrayal in a violation of the moral and cultural codes of his community.
New Light Theatre is dedicated to improving the human condition by partnering each production with thematically connected charitable causes, while also placing a special emphasis on providing opportunities for student and emerging theatre artists to work in a professional setting. In accordance with this mission, A View From the Bridge will partner with RISE, a division of Jewish Family Services. As the only refugee resettlement agency in the state of Delaware, RISE at JFS has resettled and reunited families, provided critical case management and counseling services, and engaged community members in the refugee experience through education, volunteerism, and advocacy. Through intensive, culturally sensitive case management, RISE helps refugees and other immigrants integrate and make a home in their new communities, obtain and retain employment, and establish and maintain healthy lifestyles to achieve self-sufficiency.
