Continuing its 2023-2024 Season, The Old Academy Players is proud to present the 2024 Summer One-Act Bonanza on two weekends July 12 – 21, 2024, Fridays and Saturdays at 8 pm, and Sundays at 2 pm. It is the annual festival featuring lots of comedy, new works, new directors, and plenty of laughs! Join us for a fast-paced presentation of short plays designed to put a smile on your face.  

The Kiss of Death 
Written by William Brasse; directed by Norma Kider 
Synopsis: A man thought to be dead is actually alive. 
Featuring: Helga Krauss as Mother, Victoria Glock-Molloy as Vanessa, and Marc Johnson as Joseph  

Night of the Bat
Written by Christopher Tait; directed by Annie Hnatko 
Synopsis: An unexpected house guest throws the family into chaos.
Featuring: Isaura Sanguinetti as Christa, Micah Wagman as Danny, Nicole Gerenyi as Mom, and Steve Hnatko as Dad.  

Sweet Smell of Regret
Written and directed by Rob Rosiello 
Synopsis: Lora Lee Lipton is a fabulous entertainer...sitting on a huge secret! 
Featuring:  Nyiema Lunsford as Lora Lee Lipton   

An Audience of One 
Written by Michael C. O’Day; directed by Sarah Labov 
Synopsis: As a weary vendor watches from his stand, daily life unfolds around him.  
Featuring:  Nolan Maher as The Hero, Alexa Archer as The Maid, Eric Rupp as The Vendor, Marc Johnson as The Customer, and LaPorscha Rodgers as The Jogger  

Stealing a Kiss 
Written by Laurie Allen; directed by Randy Shupp and Joan Shupp
Synopsis: Two elderly citizens meet at a bus stop where raindrops turn to rain, which turns to love.  
Featuring: Douglas Tague as Harvey and Terri Bateman as Sue  

Miss Winnie 
Written by Marla Porter; directed by Elliott Rotman 
Synopsis: It takes a lifetime to become an angel, and Miss Winnie with her donuts teaches a novice about how it's done.   
Featuring: Haley Dunning as Antedia and Susan Cantone as Miss Winnie  

Immersive Training 
Written by Miriam BC Tobin; directed by Kim Hess 
Synopsis: An overly demanding boss pushes an officer worker to the brink.  
Featuring: Steve Hnatko as Baxter, Hannah Leifheit as Cilia, and Micah Wagman as Jef  

Producers are Nancy Frick and Sarah Labov. 
Lighting and Sound Designer is Sarah Labov.  

Founded in 2009 by Old Academy member, the late Chris Schenk, the Summer One-Act Bonanza is an opportunity to feature new playwrights and directors on the Old Academy stage. Chris, who spent four years with Old Academy as an actor, writer, producer, publicity chairperson and newsletter editor, produced the first two seasons of the One-Acts until moving to Chicago. Chris developed cancer. He lost his fight with cancer in March 2012, but his legacy lives on through this delightful annual event.  

Ticket prices are: $20 per adult; $10 for Students under 25 with valid ID; group rate (15 or more) $17 each. Tickets can be purchased online at www.OldAcademyPlayers.org. Reservations and more information can be obtained by calling the Box Office at 215-843-1109.  Old Academy Players is located at 3544 Indian Queen Lane, Philadelphia, PA 19129.  Parking for all performances is free.   

The Old Academy Players has provided continuous community theater entertainment since 1923 and is a non-profit community theater in East Falls neighborhood of Philadelphia. Constructed in 1819, the Old Academy building has been the OAP home since 1932. Old Academy Players is a member of the Greater Philadelphia Cultural Alliance.  Most notable alumni include Tony Award-nominated actor Robert Prosky and Hollywood icon, Grace Kelly.  Support is provided by the "Philadelphia Cultural Fund".
