COVID-19 and Performance Updates in the Philadelphia Region

Theatres are taking action steps when it comes to COVID-19. Below, we've updated performance details and included official statements for theatres in Greater Philadelphia. Please note that the details here are subject to change moment-by-moment and will be updated regularly.

It's important to note that theatres completely rely on live community presence, gathering, and support. If a performance is canceled or if an audience member needs to cancel a ticket, patrons should please consider making a donation to that theatre. 

Canceled or Postponed Events

The following organizations have announced postponed or canceled events:

  • 11th Hour Theatre Company -  Hedwig is postponed.
     
  • 1812 Productions - 1812 Productions has decided to postpone Tyndale Place (https://www.1812productions.org/tyndale-place) scheduled to begin April 23rd, until next season. We have not yet set a new schedule for when it will be produced. Additional upcoming events will be reassessed in April.
     
  • Acting Without Boundaries - Hero Award is postponed until the Fall.
     
  • Act II Playhouse - We have made the decision that for the safety of our patrons, artists, and colleagues we must cancel all performances of Neil Simon’s Chapter Two. For a full statement and ticket exchange options, please go to https://act2.org/covid19-statement/ Act II Playhouse's 2020-21 season is moving forward as planned, and Chapter Two tickets may be applied toward any subscription package for next season. 
     
  • Arden Theatre Company - All performances, classes, and public events are canceled through April 13th.
     
  • Azuka Theatre - Azuka has canceled all remaining performances of SHIP: http://www.azukatheatre.org/ship-canceled-notice
  • Bristol Riverside Theatre - Special events are canceled, including Opening Night reception, Wine Down Wednesday, Friday Festival & Thirsty Thursday. UPDATE! In light of recent events and the latest recommendations from experts and officials regarding COVID-19, as of March 14th, Bristol Riverside Theatre is postponing ALL performances of CABARET. We hope to re-open CABARET around mid-April.
     
  • Bucks County Playhouse - In full consideration of Pennsylvania Governor Tom Wolf’s recommendation to limit public gatherings, Bucks County Playhouse is postponing all performances of the world premiere musical Other World. Rescheduled dates will be announced soon. Click here for more info.
     
  • CSz Philadelphia is closed this weekend.
     
  • Dramatists Guild - March 31st playwriting workshop, "Writing Plays for Teenagers", has been postponed.
     
  • EgoPo Classic Theater has temporarily postponed opening and all performances of Shepard's Curse of the Starving Class in support of the health and well-being of our cast, team, and audience members during the spread of coronavirus. We are working to identify new dates for the run and will make an announcement once we have more information to share.   • FringeArts: Upcoming events postponed, and Historic Building tours canceled. (https://mailchi.mp/fringearts/updates-upcoming-events-covid-19-316353?e=04e84c9810)
     
  • Hedgerow Theatre Company - We have made the difficult decision and are postponing all performances till at least the weekend after Easter. We hope to pick up at that time with our production of The Gin Game. Click here for more info
     
  • Inis Nua - In light of the current public health situation and following the advice of the CDC, Inis Nua Theatre Company will be postponing the remainder of our 2019-2020 Season. While this was a difficult decision to make, we feel that this is the best course of action for the health and safety of you, our audience, as well as the dedicated artists and administrators we employ. We are reaching out to all ticket-holders regarding next steps. Folk by Tom Wells and our Pop-Up Play in a Pub Lemons, Lemons, Lemons, Lemons, Lemons by Sam Steiner will now be featured as part of our 2020-2021 Season. This is a challenging time for us all so we are glad to share that the most exciting new plays from Ireland, England, Scotland, and Wales will still be coming to Philadelphia…just a few months later than originally planned. - https://ci.ovationtix.com/35143/store/donations
     

  • InterAct Theatre Company - As of today InterAct has cancelled all performances of The Niceties

  • Irish Heritage Theatre - Check website for any cancelations
     
  • Isis Productions - ‘Night Mother at the Neighborhood House will be closed for 2 weeks. The Neighborhood House is closed.
     
  • Jerkintown Musical Theatre - See announcement here, and here for latest updates. JMT will communicate our next steps by March 18th, along with details regarding ticket exchanges/refunds.
     
  • Kaleidoscope Cultural Arts Collective - Performances postponed until the fall.
     
  • Kimmel Center - With the health and safety of our guests, artists, staff and volunteers top of mind, we are currently working to reschedule all performances scheduled in our venues between March 13 and April 11, 2020. Patrons will be emailed about the status of each performance as details are confirmed. Click here for the latest updates.
     
  • Lantern Theater Company - It is with deep regret that Lantern Theater Company announces the suspension of Othello performances until further notice. Information for ticket holders: https://www.lanterntheater.org/covid-updates/
     
  • Media Theatre - Delaware County Council has asked us to close the theatre for at least two weeks in an effort to contain the COVID-19 coronavirus. They are asking all entertainment/ theatre venues to do so in Delco. We have followed their request, and will be closed until at least March 27. At that time a re-evaluation will take place. This means we had to close our wonderful production of BABY prematurely. All of our Acting Classes and Lessons are shut down until further notice, and no rehearsals will be taking place. Our Annual Gala has been postponed, new date TBD.
     
  • Montgomery Theater - March 27th Comedy Night canceled.
     
  • Passage Theatre has postponed its May production of A Twist of Water by Caitlin Parrish to the spring of 2021. 
     
  • People's Light - Following recommendations from local and state officials in response to the outbreak of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19), all remaining performances of Shakespeare in Love and Hold These Truths are canceled. Click here for the latest updates.
     
  • Philadelphia Theatre Company - Philadelphia Theatre Company's Play Brawl: Round Three Benefit, originally scheduled March 13th, has been postponed. The Wolves, scheduled to run on April 10th, has also been postponed.
     
  • Philly Improv Theater - PHIT to Close Through End of March. Session 2 Classes Postponed.
     
  • Players Club of Swarthmore - PCS has decided to cancel this weekend’s performances of our Main Stage production of Detroit at PCS. (https://pcstheater.org/)
     
  • Quintessence Theatre Group - Quintessence announced this morning that our upcoming Dream and Madness Repertory (A Midsummer Night's Dream, Life is a Dream, and Caligula) is on hold until further notice. We are currently working on a revised production calendar for the rest of the year, and will announce once we have new dates.
     
  • Simpatico Theatre Company - Performances of ESTHER CHOI AND THE FISH THAT DROWNED are currently postponed until the dangers of COVID-19 have passed. Please follow Simpatico Theatre on social media for more information moving forward.
     
  • Stagecrafters Theater - Owing to the Coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak and our concerns for our staff, performers and patrons, we have made the difficult decision to end our 2019-2020 Season. Both of our productions, of Dominique Morisseau’s much praised Skeleton Crew, which would have opened April 17th, and of Sara Ruhl’s provocative In the Next Room, or the Vibrator Play, which would have opened June 12th, will have places in our future programming. 
     
  • Storybook Musical Theatre - Storybook's production of Rumpelstiltskin, scheduled to run March 17 to 29 has been canceled. Tickets may be exchanged for its May and July runs of Little Mermaid.
     
  • Temple Theaters - All Temple University events, including Temple Theater performances, are canceled.
     
  • Theatre Contra -  Face/Off - A Live Reading, originally scheduled for March 16th, has been postponed. 
     
  • Theatre Horizon - All remaining productions of The Agitators have been canceled. 
     
  • Teatro del Sol - performances of Oedipus el Rey are postponed until further notice.
     
  • Theatre Non-Conforming - The Boys In the Band performances at @centretheater will be postponed until March 27th, 2020. We apologize for any inconvenience and we will be happy to help all ticket holders exchange their tickets for a future performance date.
     
  • Theatre Philadelphia - Theatre Philadelphia's 2020 Marquee Dinner has been postponed. 
     
  • Theatre in the X - West Philly Play Community Play Session at Lola38 on Sunday, March 15th has been postponed. 
     
  • University of the Arts - All UArts performances have been postponed.
     
  • Villanova Theatre - Villanova's production of Merrily We Roll Along is postponed. The run (currently slated for 3/17-3/29) will be rescheduled to a later date.
     
  • Walnut Street Theatre - We are living through an unprecedented moment in our history as we, our city, and the world are responding to COVID-19. As this crisis unfolds, the safety and well-being of the entire Walnut Street Theatre family is our first priority. With a heavy heart, as of March 16 we have cancelled all performances of The Best Man, Popcorn Falls, and Junie B. Jones. 

Continuing as Planned

As of 3/15, the following organizations with mainstage performances will proceed as scheduled. Organizations are taking precautions and following any updates closely. Many have published statements on their websites. Please check back for any updates.

  • Opera Philadelphia - Performances as scheduled, starting April 24th.
     
  • Philadelphia Artists Collective - PAC is proceeding as scheduled with the spring show Dance of Death, starting April 30th.
     
  • Stagecrafters - Performances as scheduled
