The Candlelight Theatre, located in historic Ardentown, Delaware (30 minutes from Center City, Philadelphia) is seeking non-union, singer/dancer/actors for its upcoming production of Young Frankenstein which runs March 14 to April 19, 2026. Director/Choreographer – Jessica Bostock and Music Director – Julia Kershetsky. The Candlelight Theatre encourages performers of all ethnicities, gender identities, and ages, as well as performers with disabilities to attend auditions.

 Auditions will be held by appointment on Monday, December 8th 6:00 – 10:00pm and Tuesday, December 9th 6:00 – 10:00pm. Callbacks will be scheduled if needed. Rehearsals begin on or around Tuesday, January, 20, 2026, through Friday, March 13, 2026. 

The Candlelight Theatre is a professional Dinner Theatre located in Ardentown, Delaware, approximately 30 minutes outside of Philadelphia. All roles are open and paid. There are 3-5 performances per week.

YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN.  Mel Brooks adapted his electrifyingly funny film into a brilliant stage creation! This award-winning, hilarious retelling of the Gothic story is one of the best send-ups to hit Broadway, ever! Featuring exciting dances, a thrilling score, and constant laughter. Music and lyrics by Mel Brooks. Book by Thomas Meehan and Mel Brooks. Production licensed by Music Theatre International.

 Character Descriptions

Dr. Frederick Frankenstein: Brilliant brain surgeon, professor and grandson of mad scientist Dr. Victor Von Frankenstein. Age range: 25-45, Vocal range: Bb2-G4, knowledge of tap-dancing a plus.

The Monster: The misunderstood creation of Dr. Frankenstein. Must be a minimum of 6 feet tall. Age range: n/a, Vocal range: Db2-Bb4, must be able to emit howling/monster/grunting sounds on key, knowledge of tap-dancing a plus.

Igor: Frederick’s faithful, bright-eyed, eager servant and friend with a hunchback. Vocal range: Bb2-G4, Age range:25-45, familiar with Vaudeville a plus.

Inga: Frederick’s young assistant, bubbly but not too bright. Attractive and a resident of Transylvania. Vocal range: G3-A5, Age range: 20-35, Yodeling is a plus as is a German accent.

Elizabeth Benning: Frederick's self-absorbed, eccentric, and boisterous fiancé. Vocal range:  F#3-F5, Age range: 20-40, 

Frau Blücher: Stern, intense housekeeper of the Frankenstein estate and former lover of Victor Frankenstein. Vocal range:  E3-C5, Age range: 40-60, German accent required.

Inspector Hans Kemp: The head of police in Transylvania. Driven by justice, with a wooden arm and leg. Vocal range: A2-F4, Age range: 30-50

The Hermit: A lonely, blind town hermit, hoping for a friend. Vocal range: Ab2-F4, Age range: 30-60

Dr. Victor Von Frankenstein: The infamous Dr. Frankenstein and Frederick's grandfather. Vocal range: C#2-F4, Age range: 45-70

Ziggy: The village idiot. Vocal range: D3-Eb4, Age range: 18-30

Ensemble: Gravediggers, Villagers, Medical Students, Passengers, Mad Scientists. Looking for dancers/singers, tap is a plus.

How To Apply

Please send (email) pictures and resumes to Bob Kelly, Artistic Director [email protected]and indicate your preference for either a Monday or Tuesday audition slot. Emails will be sent to arrange audition times for selected applicants.

For auditions, please prepare 16 - 32 bars in the style of the show.  Songs from the show are acceptable. An accompanist will be provided. Please provide clearly marked sheet music. No recorded tracks please. A dance combination will be given to everyone and a separate tap combination for those that tap. (Please bring tap shoes).  Readings will be provided. Please come with headshot and resume stapled together. 

No calls to the theater, please

Salary

All roles are open and paid. Additional restaurant opportunities, if desired, are available to supplement performance income. Housing is not provided.
