Submissions and Auditions: Jimmy Buffett’s Escape to Margaritaville

The Candlelight Theatre

The Candlelight Theatre, located in historic Ardentown, Delaware (30 minutes from Center City,
Philadelphia) is seeking non-union, singer/dancer/actors for its upcoming production of Escape
to Margaritaville which runs July 12 to August 24, 2025. Director/Choreographer – Jessica
Bostock, and music director – Julia Kershetsky. The Candlelight Theatre encourages performers
of all ethnicities, gender identities, and ages, as well as performers with disabilities to attend
auditions.

Auditions will be held by appointment on Monday, April 7 th  6:00 – 10:00 pm and Tuesday, April
8 th  6:00 – 10:00. Callbacks will be scheduled if needed. Rehearsals begin on or around Tuesday,
May 13, 2025, through Friday, July11, 2025. The show runs July 12 to August 24, 2025. 
 
Set your mind to island time and escape to Jimmy Buffett's Escape to Margaritaville! Featuring
your favorite Jimmy Buffet classics with book by Greg Garcia and Mike O’Malley,
Margaritaville tells the story of Tully, a smooth-talking singer/bartender whose laidback, no-
strings-attached lifestyle is turned upside down when he falls for Rachel, an environmental
scientist visiting the island.  This hilarious, heartwarming musical is the party you’ve been
waiting for! Jimmy Buffett's Escape to Margaritaville is presented by special arrangement with
Broadway Licensing, LLC. (www.broadwaylicensing.com)

arrange audition times for selected applicants.
 
For auditions, please prepare 16 - 32 bars in the style of the show.  Songs from the show are
acceptable. An accompanist will be provided. Please provide clearly marked sheet music. No
recorded tracks please. Be prepared to dance.  Readings will be provided. Please come with
headshot and resume stapled together. 
No calls to the theater, please.
 
All roles are open and paid. Performers may also have the opportunity to work in the restaurant
during the run of the show to supplement their income.

Character Breakdown
 
Tully
Male - 27-39. Smooth-talking, self-deprecating playboy. He's completely content with the life
he's chosen as the singer/bartender at a tropical resort, until he meets Rachel, a vacationer who
upends his heart. Guitar skills are useful. Vocal Range B2-C5

Rachel
Female - 27-33. Fully committed to her job and helping the world. Willing to put in as many
hours of hard work as it takes and expects everyone else to do that same. Suspicious of fools and
operators, Rachel is not easily distracted from her life plan. Vocal Range A3-F#5

Tammy
Female - 30-39. Loyal friend to Rachel. Sees the best in people and has a zest for life that is
often squelched by her fiance, Chad. Her low self-esteem manifests itself as denial in her own
life. Vocal Range: B3-F5

Brick
Male - 30-39. The Island bartender. Has a big heart and a good friend to Tully. Not the brightest
bulb, but sensitive and thoughtful. Vocal Range: A2-C5

Marley
Female - 40-49. No-nonsense and assertive with an island accent. She runs the resort and keeps
everyone in check, but clearly cares about her employees, her customers, and J.D., an older
island denizen. Great singer. Vocal Range: G#3-G#5

J.D.
Male - 60-79. A funny, endearing older man who always has a parrot on his shoulder. He's losing
his vision and his hearing, but won't acknowledge it. A good-natured drunkard, he's always
writing his memoirs on bar napkins and, as it turns out, he's lived a full life. Vocal Range: G2-D4
