We're reaching out from 1838 Black Metropolis, a public history initiative in Philadelphia that’s recreating a powerful and immersive educational event - the Institute for Colored Youth Graduation of 1852, reimagined for the spring of 2026.

We are currently casting non-union actors to portray:

  • Octavius V. Catto (plus understudy)
  • Caroline LeCount (plus understudy)
  • Two graduating students of the Institute for Colored Youth

This is a paid opportunity for actors who are passionate about history, education, and performance. It includes light archival research, in-character school visits, and a culminating performance that brings 19th-century Black excellence vividly to life for hundreds of Philadelphia youth.
