Historic Philadelphia, Inc. (HPI) seeks actors (ages 18 and up) of all ethnic backgrounds to work as Storytellers and several people to work as First-person, Costumed Interpreters/History Makers.

 

Storytellers are stationed at one of our storytelling benches around the historic district in Philadelphia or Valley Forge National Historical Park. Storytellers immerse the guests in a wide variety of historical stories about the trials and tribulations that gave rise to this nation, America. Storytellers (will be trained) should also know information about their locations and have some understanding of the geography and points of interest of Old City.

 

First-person, Costumed Interpreters, or History Makers, have an opportunity to portray real life people who lived in Philadelphia during the time of the American Revolution and the 18th Century. They will interact with visitors wanting to know more about Philadelphia in the colonial era.

 

This is a social job, one should be able to work well with others, acting experience preferred but not required, know the importance of the guest’s experience, be engaging, flexible, and an overall great communicator.

 

Knowledge and Skills:

·         Acting skills – improvisation and ability to work from a script

·         Interpreting skills – ability to make relevant connections for guests

·         Adaptability to various performing environments, from one-on-one encounters to large groups

·         General knowledge and understanding of 18th century Philadelphia History and the American Revolution

·         Willingness to explore and share complex and sensitive aspects of history

 

Part-time, seasonal work with approximately three to four weeks of paid training and public performances from June through October. Must be able to work weekends and holidays.

Salary

Part-time paid seasonal work, starting February 2025 with training and educational groups. The main season will run from June until September. Pay $16.00 - $18.00 per hour. $14.00 per hour for rehearsal time.
