The Academy of Vocal Arts is a non-profit educational institution for young opera artists located in the heart of Philadelphia. We are seeking a stage manager for our 24/25 season. 

 Our season consists of 3 opera productions: 

FAUST by Charles Gounod 

  • Pre-rehearsal prep & materials October 18th  
  • Rehearsals begin October 21st  
  • Performances run November 16th - December 4th 
  • Thanksgiving is an observed holiday 

COSI FAN TUTTE by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart 

  • Pre-rehearsal prep & materials January 24th 
  • Rehearsals begin January 27th   
  • Performances run February 22nd - March 1st  

L’AMICO FRITZ by Pietro Mascagni 

  • Pre-rehearsal prep & materials March 21st 
  • Rehearsals begin March 27th   
  • Performances run April 27th - May 7th 
  • Good Friday is an observed holiday 

Responsibilities: 

  • Tape out the rehearsal space according to the scenic ground plan 
  • Take blocking/technical notes and serve as a resource for the cast and production team 
  • Notate sound/lighting/scenic cues and include any lead times should someone else need to step in 
  • Maintain rehearsal space day-to-day and keep provided props/furniture organized 
  • Send out detailed rehearsal/performance calls/reports and communicate production needs effectively 
  • Perform technical/safety checks throughout the process 
  • Communicate time to show and ensure everyone is ready for curtain and in the wings in time for their entrances 
  • Sweep/mop stage as needed and before each performances 

This is a seasonal full-time W-2 position offered at $6,000 per production. 

Applicants should have full, open availability for each production cycle though rehearsal conflicts may be considered.

Through rigorous instruction and coaching, and by presentations of Resident Artists from around the world in concerts, oratorios, public programs, and fully-staged professional opera productions, AVA will train artists with the high potential for career success while enriching lives in Philadelphia and beyond.
