Girlpope Theatre Company is a brand-new producing collective in Philadelphia, independently run by Artistic Director Sara Jane Mascelli. Girlpope seeks to produce theatre for the "fems and freaks of Philly", and will be entering their first full season of programming this 2026!
Hot off the heels of The Dirty Shirley Show! (the musical that 2025 Fringie winner Rose Luardo of Haute Glue reviewed as "better than Hamilton, Matilda, and Wicked put together"), we have set our first public event under the Girlpope name for January 18th from 6pm-9pm at Tattooed Mom's.
This event will be a work-in-progress sharing of excerpts from Mascelli's newest musical Snake Girl, a queer pop-rock retelling of the myth of Medusa set in a modern-day high school. SJM and company are looking for volunteer actors for this unpaid fundraiser, supporting us as we begin to raise funds for our 2026 season / Philly Fringe 2026.
We are looking for driven actors of all gender identities who love pop-rock and new musical development for a very minimal rehearsal process. We will begin rehearsals in early January, located in Center City - but most of the learning will occur in the weeks leading up. Demo tracks with guide vocals will be provided to all actors as soon as they are cast, and all material will be performed on-book.

Once you've done this, SJM will reach out to each actor with self-tape instructions (will only require a short slate and pop-rock 32 bar cut) and a deadline. This form will be open for virtual appointment submissions until Friday, December 19th at 11:59pm, and auditions will be accepted on a rolling basis until Christmas Eve.
