Seeking Latine and Indigenous Actors for Philly Theatre Week Staged Reading

Beacon Theatre Productions is seeking non-union actors with Covid vaccination for the staged reading of Felipillo by Tyler Rocio Ecoña, directed by Erlina Ortiz. All ages and experience levels are welcome to apply.

Stipend: $75
Rehearsal Dates: 

Two Zoom rehearsals between 4/2/25 and 4/5/25 
(Wed. 4/2 and Sat. 4/5 at 7:00pm are scheduled, but we can change based on actors' availability).

Rehearsal at First United Methodist Church of Germantown (FUMCOG) on Tuesday, 4/8 from 6:30 - 10pm. 

Staged Reading on Friday, 4/11 at FUMCOG (Actors called for run through at 5:30pm, staged reading at 7:30pm). We will have a talkback after the show.

Actors would need the technology to rehearse on Zoom and ability to travel to FUMCOG for the rehearsal and stage reading.

How to audition:

We will have two Zoom auditions.

Actors will attend either on Sunday, March 23 at 2:00pm or Wednesday, March 26th at 7pm.

CHARACTER LIST
Actors will be reading multiple characters. While characters are listed in the binary, ALL actors are encouraged to apply. Additionally, though certain characters are male, actors need not identify as such to read for a part.

We are especially seeking Latine actors for the roles of Felipillo, Martinillo, Wiñaya, Atawalpa, and Waman. All other roles are open to people of any descent.
FELIPILLO — A Quechua man from a village in the far North of Tawantinsuyo.

WIÑAYA — An Inca noblewoman captured by the Spanish.

MARTÍN or MARTINILLO — Pizarro’s first translator, the son of an Inca nobleman.

FRANCISCO PIZARRO — The Spanish colonizer leading the “Conquest of Perú”.

FRIAR VINCENTE — Pizarro’s priest and advisor. Wired and flamboyant.

DE CHAVES — A soldier of Pizarro’s, who may or may not have been there at all. Hardworking and honest. Full name: Francisco de Chaves el Pizarrista.

ATAWALPA — The last Inca Emperor. Rose to the throne after a civil war between descendants of the previous ruler. A confident, powerful miltary strategist.

GÓMARA — Spanish chronicler from 1553, thirty years after the Conquest. Born and raised in Spain, never set foot in the Americas. Full name: Francisco Lopez de Gómara.

GARCILASO — A mixed-race historian from 1590, sixty years after the Conquest. Born & raised in Peru, to an Inca mother and Spaniard father. A historical icon for everyday Peruvians, controversial amongst scholars. Full name: Inca Garcilaso de la Vega.

WAMÁN — Former Inca noble from 1600, seventy years after the Conquest. A Quechua speaker who acquired Spanish later in life. Full name: Felipe Waman Poma de Ayala.
 

Beacon Theatre Productions had our first annual Beacon Award for a play that spotlights moments of the past to make a better future, and the winner was Tyler Rocio Ecoña's Filipillo. The playwright receives a stipend and is involved in our production of a staged reading of their play.
