Seeking Actors for Philly Fringe Festival Production

Wolfsmouth Players Company

Post Date: Mar 7, 2025

Casting select roles for Wolfsmouth Players Company's 2025 Philadelphia Fringe Festival production of 'Queerano, or A Very Great Mischief'. Previously billed as "A Very Great Mischief," this uproarious farce made its world premiere at Theater for the New City and went on to play at the New Zealand Fringe Festival. A majority of the original cast will be returning to perform at Philadelphia Fringe. Learn more at www.wolfsmouthpc.com.

AVAILABLE ROLES:

  • ANTONY (Lead, Male-presenting, 18-35). Mr. Antony Granville, a devilishly handsome, flirtatious cad and a wooer of women. A high-bred society man who uses his privilege with ease. A hopeless fool when struck down with love for Roxane.
  • DOROTHEA (Supporting, Female-presenting, 45-75). Lady Dorothea Thurston, the doting wife of Cecil. A woman from a lower class family than the man she married, who embraces traditionalism and conservatism to fit in with her bluer-blooded peers. Once awakened to her latent attraction to women, she can no longer ignore her desires.
  • CECIL (Supporting, Male-presenting, 45-75). Lord Cecil Thurston, the Baron de Mortimer. A prominent member of the House of Lords. A “forward-thinking” man amongst his peers, who enjoys his role in politics and endeavors to do his best for his country and his family.

SHOW DESCRIPTION:

It is 1921, and Lord Thurston believes it would be "a very great mischief" to inform women that queerness is not only a male pastime – little does he know his daughter, Roxane, has already given her heart to a Miss Christine Granville. Or... has she?

This sapphic, high-comedy adaptation of Cyrano de Bergerac is written by trans playwright Laura Anthony and inspired by the true story of a resolution to add "acts of indecency by females" to then already-extant buggery laws of Great Britain. A comedy of errors jam-packed with crossdressing, longing, and queerness, Queerano, or A Very Great Mischief has delighted audiences in NYC, New Zealand, the UK, and beyond.

Note: This play contains scenes of explicit language and sexual situations. All casting will be color-conscious. Gender presentations for characters have been noted on roles, and production welcomes those of any identity to audition.
