JOB DESCRIPTION

In collaboration with Director, Designer, Director of Production, and others on the production staff, the Properties Manager is responsible for the realization of all properties and set dressing required for each production. 

The Props Manager:

·         Report directly to the Technical Director and Director of Production.

·         Read and research each play in the season.  Develop a preliminary prop and furniture plot for each play and provide the necessary rehearsal props. 

·         Oversee the acquisition, construction, finishing, and implementation of all props and set dressing needed for each production within the design, budget, and time assigned. Particularly with an eye towards safety (allergies of all kinds, esp. food, as well as physical capabilities, and general situational concerns) as well as maintain a safe workspace.

·         Coordinate Prop needs with all relevant Designers and Technicians (examples - Lighting re: practical fixtures; Sound re: onstage speakers; Costumes re: accessories; Sets re: “will it fit?”) 

·         Manage and facilitate all production props needs throughout the build, rehearsal, load-in, technical rehearsal, previews, run, and close of each production. 

·         Train relevant performers, Stage Managers, and/or crew members in the appropriate use and care of all show props. Teach run crews how to maintain show props.

·         Including maintenance and storage of relevant weaponry, excepting live guns. 

·         Create, manage, and maintain props inventories. 

·         Keep accurate up-to-date records of expenditures, timely submission of all records to the Finance Department. 

·         Handle all prop and furniture loan-outs and rentals, as well as coordinate internal crossover needs (i.e. supporting Education needs; Sensory tour items for Community Engagement, etc.) 

·         Attend regular Production Meetings whenever possible. 

·         Attend all technical and dress rehearsals as able, as well as any other rehearsals that may be needed. 

·         Interface and collaborate with other departments within Production.

REQUIRED SKILLS

·         Demonstrated proficiency in stagecraft, including carpentry, stitching, painting.

·         Knowledge and experience in a variety of materials.

·         Physical demands include, but are not limited to, lifting, bending, climbing ladders and stairs.

·         Able to work independently, proactively, and with a positive attitude

·         Strong communication and listening skills

·         Valid Driver’s License

 

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE

·         Photoshop. Canva or similar proficiency

·         Upholstery familiarity
