Our Production Manager works as a leader of our venues for any technical needs. They organize and operationalize the behind-the-scenes elements of Cannonball to create a smooth experience for artists and a seamless viewing for audiences.

The job includes:

  • Create and execute production calendars, timelines, and budgets across our 2026 venues (Asian Arts Initiative, Icebox Project Space, and the Box Spring Gallery)
  • Manage stage manager staffing for all festival productions
  • Provide regular support to artists regarding technical questions
  • Plan, staff, and lead load ins and load outs across all venues
  • Collaborate with Technical Director and Producers to train stage managers and provide artists with production-related information
  • Meet with artists as-needed to ensure production needs are being met
  • Troubleshooting daily technical difficulties throughout the duration of the festival
  • Assist with other duties as mutually agreed upon with Producers

Necessary Qualifications:

  • 3+ years of experience as a production manager in a live entertainment setting.
  • Experience leading load-in and load-out procedures for various technical systems including lighting, sound, projection, rigging and more.
    • Understanding of QLab for lights, sound and video
  • Time management skills for multiple concurrent productions.
  • Consistently practice safe work habits including the use of Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) and reporting unsafe situations.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with independent artists and stage managers alike.
  • Ability to work a varied schedule during the month of September, including nights and weekends.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Physically able to complete tasks on levels (low level/kneeling, mid-level/squatting, high-level/standing) and must be able to lift, push, pull and/or carry up to 50 lbs.
  • Familiarity with the fast-paced nature of a Fringe Festival and touring shows.
  • Understanding of Circus production including rigging and safety precautions.
  • Knowledge of Cannonball Festival and enthusiasm for seeing independent artists thrive.

Important Dates

  • July 5 — Production plan draft due
  • July 20 — Production plan finalized
  • July 31 — Production plan locked (staffing, logistics, load-in finalized)
  • Aug 24 — AAI load-in begins
  • Aug 31 — Icebox load-in begins
  • Sept 1 — Load-in + tech begins at Boxspring; techs begin at AAI and Box Spring
  • Sept 5 — Tech begins at Icebox
  • Sept 8–27 — Ongoing performances, daily cross-venue production management
  • Sept 28–29 — Final strike
