Pig Iron Theatre Company

Post Date: Aug 8, 2025

The OBIE Award-winning Pig Iron Theatre Company seeks a Production Manager to lead the execution of Pig Iron’s artistic programming. Pig Iron is an incubator and producer of experimental performance work and also runs a 2.5-year MFA program in devised theater, in partnership with Rowan University. Pig Iron produces approximately one world premiere per year and has been presented nationally and internationally. Prior experience in performing arts production is preferred.

Position Summary, Essential Duties, and Responsibilities

Reporting to the Managing Director, the Production Manager is responsible for the management of all aspects of production, including the hiring and supervision of production personnel, working with directors and designers to ensure high production standards, and creating and maintaining production budgets and timelines. The Production Manager maintains the Pig Iron production studio and storage spaces, including inventory restock. The Production Manager is also responsible for the company van, and for the maintenance of the small lighting and sound inventory for Pig Iron studios.

The Pig Iron School, in partnership with Rowan University, presents 20 student showings and performances per year. The Production Manager provides production support for the 3 culminating showings each year.

The Production Manager works closely with the Co-Artistic Director and Artistic Producer who set artistic programming and supervises project-based staff. The position is full-time in person with benefits, including health and dental insurance. Some night and weekend hours are required.

Primary Responsibilities:

Theater Production

  • Oversee all aspects of production, including design, build, load-in, load-out, light hang, costume fittings and maintenance, venue preparation, and sound installation
  • Work with the Artistic Director, Artistic Producer and General Manager to create budgets for each production. The Production Manager is the primary person responsible for keeping production and tour budgets accurate and on target
  • Hire and supervise the production staff for tours and new productions
  • Create and negotiate contracts for all designers, actors, creative, and production personnel
  • Negotiate and complete paperwork for union contracts with actors, designers, and directors
  • Work closely with the General Manager to organize contracts, payment schedules, and records of fees, salaries, and benefits for production staff and creative teams
  • Create technical riders and act as the primary point of contact for production for presenters and rented spaces
  • Create and maintain show-specific calendars detailing creative and production meetings, rehearsals, load-ins, technical rehearsals, and load-outs.
  • Maintain accurate files of set designs, light designs, technical riders, and sound designs for all company shows
  • Oversee Company Management: book housing and travel, arrange for transportation to/from the airport and train station, and tend to other artist needs as they arise. (For larger shows, a company manager is hired on a project basis)
  • Facilitate scheduling, staffing, and logistics for Pig Iron auditions
  • Oversee crew and production needs for the annual benefit cabaret

School Production

  • Coordinate load-in, load-out, light hang, venue preparation, and sound installation for 3 culminating showings each year. (When culminating shows overlap or conflict with Pig Iron’s productions, additional support is hired on a project basis)
  • Provide guidance to School and Community Manager on set up and maintenance of risers, lights, and sound equipment for in-house showings

Facilities & Administration

  • Maintain a safe and organized rehearsal and performance space

Qualifications
