The Media Theatre, an award-winning, non-profit 501c3 professional theatre company, is seeking candidates for the full time position of Production Manager.
DESCRIPTION
The Production Manager is a senior staff member responsible for managing/scheduling all technical operations, production logistics, facility rentals, and crew coordination at The Media Theatre. This role serves as a liaison between designers, staff, and external parties to ensure smooth execution of all productions, events, and rental engagements.
DUTIES
Production Oversight & Technical Coordination
- Oversee all technical departments (scenic, lighting, sound, props, costumes, projections) for Mainstage, Youth, Educational, and Special Events.
- Serve as the primary contact for designers, rental clients, and third parties, sharing specs and coordinating needs.
- Collaborate with IATSE crew and overhire staff to install, execute, and strike productions.
- Maintain safe, organized work environments and ensure compliance with union agreements.
Scheduling & Calendars
- Build and maintain seasonal production calendars in partnership with the Executive Artistic Director.
- Coordinate rehearsals, crew calls, builds, load-ins, tech, and strikes.
- Track and manage staff conflicts, ensuring accurate and timely communication across departments.
Facility & Rental Management
- Field rental inquiries, provide tours and technical information, and coordinate logistics.
- Act as the primary liaison for external rentals and ensure compatibility with the theatre calendar and policies.
Purchasing & Budget Management
- Source and secure production materials, rentals, and specialty items within budget.
- Track production expenses and receipts; collaborate with the Bookkeeper on payroll and vendor payments.
- Ensure hourly employees' time is properly recorded and submitted for payroll processing.
Day-to-Day Expectations
- Be present onsite based on production demands; maintain availability for phone or in-person coordination.
- Attend general and production-specific staff meetings.
- Secure and close the building when acting as the last staff member onsite.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Effective communication skills, both oral and written.
- Experience leading and managing groups of artistic and production collaborators.
- Knowledge of office software, especially Google Docs, Google Drive, Google Sheets, Google Calendar, and Zoom.
- Ability to understand plans in CAD software (VectorWorks, AutoCAD) and Adobe Creative Cloud applications preferred.
- Ability to interpret architectural and electrical plans, diagrams, local code requirements, equipment manuals, contracts, show riders and other available documents in preparing and executing production plans and designs.
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation (experience driving small box trucks and vans a plus)
- Experience or willing to learn in related production disciplines, including carpentry, rigging, sewing, lighting, sound, and projections.

TIMELINE & COMPENSATION & HOURS
The deadline for submissions is Friday, August 15. Ideal candidates are available to begin near or around September 1, though the start date is flexible. The anticipated compensation is between $38,000 - $42,000 per year, commensurate with experience. This is a full time position that will require nights & weekends available, between 30-40 hours per week.
