The Media Theatre is searching for Music Director candidates for their upcoming 2025/2026 season. Please see attached breakdown of each production and associated timelines. The Music Director is responsible for all the musical elements of a production, leading the actors through rehearsals and in performance. Works closely with the director and Sound Designer to fully-realize the work and remain faithful to the vision of the author and director. The Music Director acts as a liaison between seasonal and full time staff in regards to artistic programming.

    • First rehearsal: Nov 10, 2025
    • Previews: Nov 26 & 28, 2025
    • Opening: Nov 29, 2025
    • Closing: Dec 28, 2025
  • FUN HOME
    • First rehearsal: March 9, 2026
    • Previews: March 26 - 27, 2026
    • Opening: March 28, 2026
    • Closing: April 5, 2026 (possible extension thru April 12)
  • 9 TO 5
    • First rehearsal: April 20, 2026
    • Previews: May 7 - 8, 2026
    • Opening: May 9, 2026
    • Closing: May 31, 2026

DUTIES

  • Teach the music in the shows to the actors 
  • Ensure that a professional musical quality is maintained and that there is consistency during performances.
  • Participate in Production Meetings before and during the rehearsal process
  • Orchestrate and prepare the music to the specifications provided
  • Serve as Piano/Conductor for each production 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Effective communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Experience leading and managing groups of artistic and production collaborators.
  • Knowledge of office software, especially Google Docs, Google Drive, Google Sheets, Google Calendar, and Zoom.
  • Knowledge of Mainstage, Sibelius, Finale, Keyboardtek and/or relevant software
  • Ability to interpret technological versions of music provided
  • Excellent musicianship and piano playing ability
  • Leading, encouraging and enthusing the actors on stage
  • Diplomacy and tact when working with a range of people and personalities
  • Committed to upholding the artistic vision provided
  • Self-motivated, honest, thoughtful, and composed.
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize

TIMELINE & COMPENSATION

The deadline for submissions is Thursday, May 22. Ideal candidates are available to begin the pre-production process at least 45 days prior to the first rehearsal.
