Duties and Responsibilities

  • Work alongside the Head and Assistant Carpenter to install, operate, and maintain all scenery and rigging for PTC’s mainstage season.
  • Perform required scenery and rigging work for PTC rental clients and other events, including conferences, speeches, seminars, comedy, dance, and theatre.
  • Serve as a member of the run crew as needed for performances and events; as a carpenter or rail operator or in other departments (such as lighting, properties, or video).
  • Assist the Head and Assistant Carpenter in the supervision of overhire carpentry crew, the maintenance of rigging, shop, scenic elements and equipment, inventory records, and any paperwork as required.
  • Work nights and weekends.
  • Retain confidentiality on all aspects related to the company, performers, and staff.
  • In conjunction with the production staff, maintain a safe, efficient, organized, and clean working environment of all shop and production operations.

Desired Qualifications

  • Demonstrated ability to work comfortably in a theatrical setting.
  • Ability to work independently and supervise others during the installation and strike of theatrical scenery and rigging.
  • Knowledge of the operation of counterweight rigging systems.
  • Familiarity with rigging techniques and methods.
  • Experience with carpentry tools.
  • Knowledge of stage carpentry techniques including flat and platform construction and installation, soft-good hang and care, and event setup and teardown.
  • Knowledgeable of current theatrical technology.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Candidate must be resourceful, flexible, organized, collaborative, and positive. 

Compensation and Benefits

This opening is for an hourly position and is represented by the collective bargaining agreement between IATSE Local #8 and PTC. Compensation is $23.94 per hour.
