FRONT OF HOUSE AND HOSPITALITY MANAGER

Part-time, year-round

Quintessence Theatre Group (QTG) is Northwest Philadelphia’s classic theatre company in residence at the historic Sedgwick Theater in Mt. Airy. We are seeking a dynamic and detail-driven Front of House and Hospitality Manager (FOHHM) to take proactive and proud ownership of the Front of House and Concessions functions, providing excellent patron experiences. 

The primary role of the FOHHM is to manage the patron experience once they have arrived at the theatre in coordination with the production team. The Sedgwick Theater is our home, and the FOHHM is the host and plays a key role in the patron experience.  This role works in close partnership with the Box Office Manager.  

Reports to the Director of Marketing and Communications.    

Responsibilities:

  • The FOHMM oversees and take responsibility for all operations in the lobbies, public spaces (restrooms) and house during productions; 
  • The FOHMM communicates clearly with volunteers, Box Office and concessions staff, and production team before, during, and after productions to be sure we start on time, and serve quickly during intermission; 
  • The FOHMM anticipates and resolves any patron issues arising during productions including access, seating choices, late seating and other patron concerns;
  • The FOHMM serves as an audience building and ticket sales ambassador dropping off materials, postering local businesses, and attending and managing all community events, e.g. Mt. Airy Supper Sessions (summer) and fall and holiday fairs; 
  • The FOHMM continually recruits, trains and coaches volunteer ushers;
  • The FOHMM schedules our custodial services; 
  • The FOHMM ensures the theater is safely opened and closed for performances and rentals; 
  • The FOHMM manages all concessions and house supplies ordering; occasional local supply pickups (coffee and snacks); take inventory and ensure we don’t run out of supplies;
  • The FOHMM ensures that the area in front and alongside the theater is appropriately cleaned and clear of hazards and trash; 
  • Other tasks as appropriate and needed.

Are you the right person for this role?

The Front of House and Hospitality Manager role is perfect for someone who loves professional live theatre, supporting artists, and a fast-paced, constantly changing environment. You will be successful in this position if you are a reliable person who brings calm to a hectic environment, are entrepreneurial, are comfortable being independent but working collaboratively, enjoy meeting and talking with people, and have a hospitality and marketing mindset. You will have a successful launch into this role if you have theatre experience and past hospitality training. 

HOURS

This is a part-time year round position with two different schedules - one during productions that includes evenings and weekends, and a daytime schedule when no show is running. Daytime, non-production hours may be flexible. This position requires access to a car for occasional pickups of supplies and the ability to lift and carry weight up to 20 pounds.
