Old Academy Players welcomes new talent! Please note that we are a non-profit community theater and that all roles are performed on a volunteer basis and are non-paying.

Audition Requirements:
Director, Annie Hnatko, is seeking 6 men and 2 women to complete the cast of Old Academy Players’ 2026–2027 season musical. Actors of color are highly encouraged to audition. Actors under 18 years old will not be considered. Our license with MTI prohibits us from announcing our show until September 6, 2026.
Please contact Annie Hnatko ([email protected]) to schedule your audition slot. Walk-ins will be seen at the discretion of the casting team before 12 noon. Please include the roles, from the list below, for which you would like to be considered.
Please prepare 16–32 measures of a musical theater song. The provided accompanist has requested that all auditioners send their sheet music via email in advance to [email protected] . Please ensure starting and ending points are clearly marked. Neither a cappella singing nor accompaniment tracks will be permitted. Performers interested in Man 2 may be asked to perform a short dance audition. Please come dressed to move.

Available Roles:
Man 1: A gay, gentle giant living with HIV. This actor must be an African American/Black man with a strong “gospel-esque” voice.
Lead Role | Age: 25–36 | Vocal Range: Baritone F#2 to A4
Man 2: A joyful drag queen living with HIV. Previous drag experience is preferred but not required. Those auditioning for this role may be asked to stay for a short dance audition.
Lead Role | Age: 20–30 | Vocal Range: Tenor C3 to A4
Man 3: A yuppie sell-out who is strong-willed. Actors of color are encouraged to audition.
Supporting Role | Age: 25–35 | Vocal Range: Baritone Bb2 to F#4
Men 4, 5, and 6: These actors will play multiple ensemble roles and should be strong singers and movers. Actors of color are encouraged to audition.
Ensemble Role | Age: 18+ | Vocal Range: Any
Woman 1: This African American/Black actress will play multiple ensemble roles.
Ensemble Role | Age:18+ | Vocal Range: Mezzo
Woman 2: This actress will play multiple ensemble roles. Actresses of color are encouraged to audition.

Performance Dates:
Fridays and Saturdays, November 6, 7, 13, 14, 20, and 21 at 8:00pm
Sundays, November 8, 15, and 22 at 2:00pm
*Additional performances may be added
Rehearsal Dates:
Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday evenings at 6:30pm. Not all roles will be called for each rehearsal.

The Old Academy Players has provided continuous community theater entertainment since 1923 and is a non-profit community theater in the East Falls neighborhood of Philadelphia. Constructed in 1819, the Old Academy building has been the OAP home since 1932. Old Academy Players is a member of the Greater Philadelphia Cultural Alliance. Most notable alumni include Tony Award-nominated actor Robert Prosky and Hollywood icon, Grace Kelly. Support is provided by the "Philadelphia Cultural Fund" and the "Sylvia W. and Randle M.
