WHAT TO PREPARE:

Prepare to sing 16-32 bars in the style of the show. All characters must be able to move well and be improvisational and comedic. The cast must work as a unit to create a community ensemble. The dance call will take place after the vocal audition, so please be prepared to dance.

SYNOPSIS:

Based on the New Testament gospels, mostly St. Matthew, GODSPELL uses the parables and passion story of Jesus for an inventively theatrical and inter-active show about the formation of a community.

CHARACTER BREAKDOWN:

JESUS – Must be the most charismatic individual in the cast. High Energy, charming, funny, gentle but with strength. He is the sort of person others instinctively follow. Vocal range: Db3 to G#4

JOHN THE BAPTIST/JUDAS – He has attributes of both biblical figures. He is both Jesus lieutenant and most ardent disciple and the doubter who begins to question and rebel. Like Jesus, he is also charismatic but in more of an overt revolutionary way. While he is the most serious and intellectual of the group, he must still have a sense of good physical comedy.  Vocal range: C3 to E4

NICK – Very high energy. Impish and playful. Sings "We Beseech Thee" Vocal range: B2 to D5

TELLY – Very sweet and innocent but naïve.  Sings "All Good Gifts" Vocal range: G2 to C4

GEORGE – A comedian who can do impressions and voices. Sings "Light of the World" Vocal range: G3 to E5

ANNA MARIA – Tomboyish but open and sweet. The first to join the “community". Sings "Day by Day" Vocal range: G#3 to C#5

LINDSAY – The overly confident “show off”. The first one to volunteer before she understands what’s going on. Sings "Bless the Lord" Vocal range: G#3 to C#6

UZO – Shy. Sometimes a little slow to understand but once she does, she fully commits. Earth Mother vibe. Sings "By My Side" Vocal range: A3 to B4

MORGAN – Sassy and slightly cynical. Also sexy in a put-on way. Sings "Turn Back O' Man" Vocal range: E3 to F5

CELISSE – A class clown type. Goofy and playful. Sings "Learn Your Lesson Well" Vocal range: A3 to A5

The entire cast sings “The Tower of Babble” and joins in on most other songs.
