ABOUT THE SHOW:
Fellowship! The Musical Parody of “The Fellowship of the Ring”
Fellowship! is the hilarious musical parody of the JRR Tolkien novel The Fellowship of the Ring, following all of the events from this epic adventure with one big difference: This time it’s funny! This Broadway style musical is an hilarious send-up featuring twelve original songs, from over-the-top opening number complete with barefooted tap-dancing Hobbits to an elf-on-human 80’s power ballad with live guitar solo performed by the rightful heir of Gondor. In an actual showstopper, the Balrog (a terrifying creature of shadow and flame) performs a sequin-studded New York style cabaret number.

ROLE BREAKDOWN: We are looking for a performer to play Gandalf/Galadriel in this 2025 run as well as 4 understudies. This show is the ultimate ensemble piece, so each track will also play various ensemble roles in addition to the named characters listed.
SideQuest Theater is committed to equity, diversity, and inclusion, we encourage performers of all races and ethnicities, gender identities, sexualities, and abilities to attend auditions.
Gandalf/Galadriel → [Baritone] Gandalf and Galadriel have both been around a long time and have the gravitas to prove it even through the humor. This performer should be able to play both deadly serious and silly - This performer will also play various Nazgul and Orc. *Dance experience is preferred but not required
-----
Understudy #1: (minimum 3 performance guarantee - Dec. 5, 6, 7)
Frodo → [Tenor - Confident with E4-A4, strong Falsetto is a plus!] A genuine and tortured hobbit, burdened with carrying the ring. Kind of the worst, but we still love him. One of the few roles that doesn’t double.
-----
Understudy #2: (minimum 4 performance guarantee - Nov. 21, 22, 23 & Dec. 20)
Merry/Elrond → [Baritenor] Our adventurers may forget Merry, but Merry never forgets his bag of weed. Though frequently the butt of the joke, Merry remains a loyal friend. Elrond forgets he’s not in Men in Black, and Actor 5 gets to play with some puppets.
Sam/Balrog → [Baritenor] Sam is hopelessly devoted to Frodo. This actor also plays the Balrog who has a jazzy cabaret number with audience interaction/improv.
-----
Understudy #3:
Bilbo/Boromir → [Baritenor] Bilbo knows how to have a good time, but is ready to rest. This actor also plays Boromir who is very tempted by the ring. Actor 3 must be confident acting/singing many different characters.
Gandalf/Galadriel → [Baritone] Gandalf and Galadriel have both been around a long time and have the gravitas to prove it even through the humor. Actor 4 should be able to play both deadly serious and silly.
Strider → [Baritone] Mysterious Strider may be the most melodramatic of the group as he juggles love and the greater good. Ability to play electric guitar preferred but not required
-----
Understudy #4: (minimum 1 performance guarantee - Dec. 19)
Pippin → [Alto/Mezzo] Pippin loves being a hobbit and telling the dumbest jokes that everyone seems to love. Pippin also sings the patter song of the show!
Gimli → [Alto] Underneath his gruff exterior, Gimli is sweet and loyal. Actor 8 must be confident acting/singing many different characters.
Legolas/Arwen → [Mezzo] Legolas is graceful and proud as is Arwen, though that doesn’t stop her from singing an 80s power ballad with the man she loves. Actor 9 must be confident acting/singing many different characters.
