The Road Company is looking for non-equity actors for its upcoming production of “Fences” (A small stipend will be paid based on opening night sales.)
Auditions for "Fences" at The Road Company Theater will take place on Sunday, December 7th, 6pm - 9pm with Callbacks on Monday December 8th at 7:00 pm at 405 S Main Street, Williamstown NJ, 08094. Please complete and submit this form prior to your attendance at the audition.
We cannot accept any conflicts for tech week or for any of the performance dates.
Rehearsal Days: Rehearsals will begin in January 2026.
A Rehearsal schedule will be created after the show is cast.
Performance Dates: March 12th, 13th, 14th, 15th, 19th, 20th, 21st, 22nd

Please Prepare a 2-Minute Dramatic Monologue in the style of Fences, may be from the show.
SYNOPSIS:
A former African American League baseball player struggles to co-exist with the racial trauma he still carries from his time in the league. When his frustrations lead to a series of tragic choices, his relationships with his wife and son suffer the consequences. Set in the 1950s, Fences is the sixth installment in The American Century Cycle, a series of ten plays by August Wilson that trace the Black experience through 20th century America.
CHARACTER BREAKDOWN:
Troy Maxson – Black Male, 40-60s Father, husband, former Negro League Baseball player.
Jim Bono – Black Male, 40 – 60’s, Troy’s friend
Rose – Black Female, 40’s – 60’s, Troy’s wife
Lyons – Black Male, 20’s – 30’s, Troy’s oldest son by a previous marriage.
Gabriel – Black Male, 30’s- 50’s, Troy’s brother that suffers from a WW2 brain injury
Cory – Black Male, 18 – 25, Troy and Rose’s son.
Raynell – Black Female, 7-10, Troy’s daughter
