Old Academy Players is pleased to announce the audition date for its 2025 production of Disenchanted! by Dennis T. Giacino. Disenchanted! will be performed at the Old Academy Players theater located at 3544 Indian Queen Lane, Philadelphia,PA 19129 from April 25th, 2025 through May 11th, 2025. The musical is directed by Annie Hnatko and produced by Steve Hnatko.

Audition Requirements:
Director Annie Hnatko is seeking 5 to 9 adult women of all shapes, sizes, ages, and ethnicities. These women ARE NOT the Disney princesses. They are real women from the original tales based on Grimm, Perrault, de Villeneuve, historic accounts, and legend with a healthy dose of a modern-day, strong, independent woman mixed-in.
Brief Synopsis: Poison apples and lost slippers are just the beginning. The original storybook heroines are none-too-happy with the way they’ve been portrayed in today’s pop culture so they’ve tossed their tiaras and have come to life to set the record straight. Forget the princesses you think you know – these royal renegades are here to comically belt out the truth. Disenchanted! received an “Outstanding Off-Broadway Musical” nomination (Outer Critics Circle Awards) and a “Best New Off-Broadway Musical” nomination (Off Broadway Alliance). Contains adult language and content.

· Sleeping Beauty has been pre-cast.
· Snow White, Soprano – Lead
Brassy and self-assured. The leader of the princess pack who likes to be in control. Also has a loving, maternal instinct. Aspires to be perfect, but she soon realizes that being perfectly ‘you’ is more important. Inclusive and diverse casting encouraged.
· Cinderella, Soprano – Lead
Perky, quirky, and impish. She’s always enthusiastic, especially when it comes to being a real life princess, but is about to discover that there’s more to being a princess than pretty gowns and shiny glass slippers. Inclusive and diverse casting encouraged.
· The Princess Who Kissed The Frog, Mezzo – Supporting – African American/Black
Having been left out of the kingdom for decades, this Black princess is here to claim her throne and celebrate inclusivity and diversity in fairy tales. Confident; clever with a turn of phrase, loves a funny pop culture reference. Wonderfully witty; joyous.
· Hua Mulan*, Soprano – Supporting — Asian
A legendary folk hero of Asian descent from the poem The Ballad of Mulan. She has a good-natured sense of humor while maintaining a respect for her culture. She is excited to come out onstage and, through her heartfelt story, reveal her true self.
· Pocahontas*, Soprano – Featured – Native American
Plucky, valiant. She has been homogenized by an entertainment industry willing to distort her true Native-American story just to sell cinema tickets. As she comically mocks her glammed-up portrayal in Hollywood cartoons, she is on a journey to restore her authentic, historical self.
· Princess Badroulbadour*, Mezzo – Featured – South Asian or Middle Eastern
Originally from the South-Asian-turned-Middle-Eastern Aladdin sagas, this sultan’s daughter has had enough of being secondary in her own tale. Misogyny begone! It’s a whole new world and this independent and puckish princess is taking her story back!
· The Little Mermaid**, Mezzo – Supporting
Once innocent and obedient, she’s now rowdy and rebellious. Having regretfully given up her seemingly idyllic life under the sea, she copes with her new reality through inappropriate yet hilarious comedy. She is the life of the party! Inclusive and diverse casting encouraged.
· Belle**, Mezzo – Featured
A smart and witty bookworm from classic French lit who inexplicably speaks and sings with an American accent. She chats with inanimate objects, cleans up after her beast of a husband…and it’s slowly driving her insane. Inclusive and diverse casting encouraged.
· Rapunzel**, Alto — Featured
American capitalism won’t turn this campy, Mel Brooksian songstress into a damsel in distress. Nein! Brunehildesque, strong, and fun-loving, she’s bent on getting her fair share from those who make bank off fairy tale princesses. Inclusive and diverse casting encouraged. This actress must be able to maintain a German accent.
*At the discretion of the director, the roles of Hua Mulan, Pocahontas, and Princess Badroulbadour may be played by one actress.

Wednesday, April 23, 2025 at 7:30 pm Club Night performance
Fridays and Saturdays, April: 25 & 26, May: 2, 3, 9, & 10, 2025 at 8:00pm
Sundays, May 4 & 11, 2025 at 2:00pm

Rehearsal Dates:
· Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday evenings at 6:30pm. Not all roles will be called for each rehearsal.
· Brush-Up Rehearsals: Wednesday, April 30 and Tuesday, May 6 at 6:30pm
If cast, you will also be required to:
· attend the Club Night rehearsal of the Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time on Wednesday, March 5 at 7:30pm
· assist hospitality for one performance of the Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time
· assist with Set & Tech Strike/Build between The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time and Disenchanted! on Sunday, April 23 at 4:30pm and Monday, April 24 at 6pm.

The Old Academy Players has provided continuous community theater entertainment since 1923 and is a non-profit community theater in East Falls neighborhood of Philadelphia. Constructed in 1819, the Old Academy building has been the OAP home since 1932. Old Academy Players is a member of the Greater Philadelphia Cultural Alliance. Most notable alumni include Tony Award-nominated actor Robert Prosky and Hollywood icon, Grace Kelly. Support is provided by the "Philadelphia Cultural Fund" and the "Sylvia W. and Randle M.
