Apprenticeships (Carpentry & Scenic Painting)

Philadelphia Scenic Works is the nation's first independent, non-profit (501c3) scene shop. We work with arts organizations all over the Greater Philadelphia area to build projects that advance their missions. At the same time, we are investing in building a healthy, sustainable workforce, and innovative resource sharing.

Our Seasonal Apprenticeship is a four-month-long program that seeks to further instill and refine scenic fabrication skills to emerging-career artists. We seek individuals who possess at least an introductory background in theatre production and stagecraft and want to deepen those skills to reach a professional level. The program seeks to value this individual as a member of our team and develop their skills for future employment opportunities.

Our application does not have any specific age, degree, or skill requirements, however candidates must have sufficient experience in the field to demonstrate a basic understanding of the work and enthusiasm to make a commitment to this four month program.

• This is a paid position at $19/hr for 30-40 hours per week, on a W2.
• February - May 2025
• We are seeking 1 Carpentry-focused Apprentices and 1 Scenic-focused Apprentice, although there will be cross-disciplinary opportunities.
• Apprenticeship will receive at least 4-5 hours of direct instructional time per week, as well as on-the-job training.
