Non-Union Actors for Illuminating Caroline Still Anderson
People’s Light announces a call for submissions for our Mobile Works touring performance of Illuminating Carline Still Anderson by Andrew Watring. We are seeking talented, non-union, actor-singers for a three-week process bringing a Philadelphia trailblazer to life for a variety of school and community venues in a 30-minute performance and facilitated post-show discussion.
Rehearsals: 10:00 AM - 6:00 PM; September 22-27 (Monday-Saturday) at People’s Light in Malvern, PA
Performances: September 29-October 12; assorted venues in Chester, Delaware, Montgomery, and Philadelphia counties as scheduled. (Monday-Saturday)
SYNOPSIS
Illuminating Caroline Still Anderson introduces a trailblazing local hero hidden in the shadows of history. Through story and music, meet the Black female doctor and educator who aspired to practice medicine just as the Civil War ended, and a modern-day student researching how Doctor Anderson opened doors for others.
CHARACTERS:
MELANIE LEWIS, a Black woman. 20s. (any pronouns) Student: hopeful, frustrated.
CAROLINE STILL ANDERSON, a Black woman. 30s-50s. (She/her/hers) Educator, physician, musician: pragmatist.
