Philadelphia Young Playwrights (PYP) is holding auditions for several upcoming projects and productions, specifically for our classroom acting pool and our annual SaturPLAY Festival. We are seeking local, non-union actors of all racial and ethnic backgrounds, gender identities, ages, and abilities, reflecting the richly varied communities that we serve.
We do welcome submissions from university and teen actors!
We are especially interested in actors who:
All actors must be able to pass and provide proof of updated PA Criminal, Child Abuse, and FBI clearances upon being offered any role. (If actor has never had to undergo a clearance process, Young Playwrights will pay for and help to process clearances.)

Definite Projects Being Cast:
SaturPLAY - Our annual celebration of elementary and middle school playwrights will be held this year at the Please Touch Museum on Saturday, March 1, 2025 from 10:00am - 1:00pm and will rehearse weekday evenings from February 19th - February 26th at Philadelphia Young Playwrights’ location at 1219 Vine Street. Tech rehearsal will be Friday, February 28th at the Please Touch Museum. Actors will be cast in four (4) short plays and will be expected to balance vulnerable sincerity with cartoonish hijinks in their single blow-out performance.
There will also be a remount of SaturPLAY during Philly Theatre Week on Saturday, April 12, 2025. A brush-up rehearsal will be at Philadelphia Young Playwrights’ location on Thursday, April 10th. Tech rehearsal will be on Friday, April 11th at the Asian Arts Initiative Black Box Theatre on the first floor of 1219 Vine Street location. Actors who are cast in the SaturPLAY Festival MUST be available for ALL of the dates listed and will be paid a $935.00 stipend for the project.
SaturPLAY 2025 Key Dates:
Rehearsal Period February 19th - February 26th, 4:00pm - 8:30pm
Tech Rehearsal February 28th, 4:00pm - 8:00pm
Performances March 1st (Bill #1 at 10:00am, Bill #2 at 12:00pm)
Brush-up Rehearsal April 10th, 4:00pm - 7:00pm
Tech Rehearsal April 11th, 4:00pm - 7:00pm
Performances April 12th, (Bill #1 and Bill #2 at 11:00am)
Classroom Actors - This season performers will most often visit classrooms in person with a PYP teaching artist, though some virtual actor visits may still be requested by our schools due to COVID safety procedures. Classroom actors serve students in a number of capacities, including: cold readings, giving feedback on drafts, improvising based on scenes, and performing at in-school festivals. (Multiple classroom acting opportunities available from February, 2025 - June, 2025, paid at a rate of $35/hr.)

Actors will also be considered for any additional projects/readings that may come about throughout the season.
Audition Details:
In-person auditions will be held at Philadelphia Young Playwrights’ location on the 2nd floor of 1219 Vine Street, 19107 on January 30, 2025 from 4:00pm - 7:00pm. Audition monologues should be family friendly and can range from dramatic to comedic to absurd.
If you choose to audition with one (1) monologue, it should be no longer than two minutes in length. If you choose to audition with two (2) monologues, they should be no longer than two minutes in length, total. Again, all monologues should be family friendly.
