Arts Play Theatre is seeking a teaching artist for a Caregiver and Me class.
Arts Play Theatre is a new, non-profit theatre organization for children and families located in South Jersey. Our mission is to use innovative and high-quality theatre experiences to inspire young people and their families to be creative and empathetic.
The class, titled “Caregiver and Me Play Date” meets weekly on Friday mornings. The commitment spans February 24 – May 19 (no class April 7) from 10:30 am – 12 pm. Within the 90 minute time frame, there will be two identical 30-40 minute sessions. Each session will be capped at a maximum of 8 children ages 2-5 and their caregivers.
Classes are free to participants (donations encouraged) and are meant to stand alone: participants can register for just one session or they can attend multiple weeks.
The first six weeks of classes will be held at the Cherry Hill Public Library, and the second six weeks will be held at the Artists in Motion Dance Complex, also in Cherry Hill.
These classes are focused on encouraging creative play and fun with imagination. Every week we will provide each child with a toy / prop to use for that week’s activities. Teaching artists will use dramatic techniques and prompts to guide the children to express their own ideas. Teaching artists will also guide caregivers to set up an environment that is well-suited for creativity and positivity. There is no performance component – it’s all about learning to play together!
The ideal teaching artist will be well-versed in basic theatre storytelling and improvisation technique. An enjoyment of working with young children is essential, as is confidence, patience and empathy with caregivers. Locations are not easily accessible by public transportation – you must be able to provide your own transportation. You also must be able to pass a background check that clears you to work with children. This is an independent contractor position.
Arts Play Theatre is an equal opportunity employer. We believe that we are better because of our diversity. We actively work to create an environment where everyone who is a part of our programming feels welcome. Accessibility is essential.
