Stage Manager for Youth Musical Theatre production

Yes! And... Collaborative Arts

Post Date: Jan 16, 2023

Yes! And…Collaborative Arts' Winter Sort of Thing gives kids the opportunity to be part of a full-length original musical production with professional theater artists! This program is for our participants in 5th-12th grade who have done Yes! And… programming previously. We begin in November with workshops to introduce cast members to the process and the play, and move into the rehearsal process in January. We then rehearse in evenings and on weekends and perform our show at Venice Island Performing Arts Center March 2nd - 5th, 2023!

Like all of our programs at Yes! And…, Winter Sort of Thing is focused on process instead of product. We treat our young cast members with the same respect we would treat adult artists, while acknowledging their limits and always keeping their growth and development as people and collaborators a priority while making art with them. We focus on the needs and trajectories of each individual child, and work to create a challenging, fulfilling, and welcoming experience for every kid.

The stage manager will be responsible for taking notes during rehearsals, managing the schedule and timeline of each rehearsal, helping to coordinate production needs, assisting the director, leading the tech process, attending production meetings, and assisting the producer, as agreed upon between them and the company. For performances, they will be a key part of managing the cast backstage before and after the show; they will call the cues of the show, and they will coordinate with the front-of-house about start times. They will collaborate with the design and production team, as well as the senior staff of Yes! And…, to create schedules, discuss the trajectory of the production, and ensure a cohesive and smooth production and process. There are also ample opportunities to lead games, warm ups, small-group rehearsals, and participate as a creative collaborator in the process, if interested.

Yes! And…Collaborative Arts serves a group of kids with diverse backgrounds, identities, and needs. BIPOC and LGBTQ+ individuals are encouraged to apply!
