JERSEY BOYS Extras and External Understudies

Walnut Street Theatre is currently seeking local non-union actors to be on-stage Extras and External Understudies for all roles in JERSEY BOYS this fall to open our 2024-2025 Season. Richard Stafford is directing with Joey Cullinane as Associate Choreographer. Rehearsals are scheduled to begin on September 10 with performances running from October 1 – November 3, 2024.

SEEKING:

EXTRAS –Male characters, all ages, ethnicities, body types and voice parts to play non-speaking background roles. Will understudy larger roles (leads or dancers) from within the cast. Should have a strong understanding of 60’s pop and rock voices and move well.

ENSEMBLE U/S – Male characters, all ages, ethnicities, body types, and voice parts to cover a chorus of fantastic singer, dancers, and characters. All must move well. Many featured roles from the Ensemble include Joe Pesci, Norm Waxman, and various characters throughout The Four Season’s lives.

MARY DELGADO, LORRAINE, & FRANCINE U/S – Caucasian female characters– strong singer/dancers with flexible vocal registers. Double as a variety of other Ensemble roles including the many girlfriends of The Four Seasons.

TOMMY DEVITO U/S - 30s Caucasian Male Character – a strong Bari-Tenor; Founding member of The Four Seasons. Comfortable with four-part harmonies. A natural born leader with an appealing, bad-boy quality, who serves as a narrator.

FRANKIE VALLI U/S– 20s-30s Caucasian Male Character– 5’9”ish - a strong Tenor with sweet and strong falsetto in the style of front man Frankie Valli (up to falsetto treble G). A charismatic and charming boy from Jersey. Comfortable with narrative text and has a gritty side as well as a polished veneer. Good with four-part harmonies

NICK MASSI U/S –30s Caucasian Male Character – a strong Bari-Bass; Comfortable with four-part harmonies. A quiet dreamer who longs for life after The Four Seasons. Introspective and a man of few words.

BOB GAUDIO U/S –A young 30s Caucasian Male Character – a strong Bari-Tenor; Comfortable with four-part harmonies. An intelligent, sensitive, and introspective musical prodigy. Savy and more Straight-laced compared to his bandmates.

BOB CREWE U/S –30s-40s Caucasian Male Character – Baritone - An intelligent and flamboyant, genius music producer/lyricist. An integral part of creating The Four Seasons, who is well spoken. Comedic.

GYP DECARLO U/S - 40s-50s Caucasian Male Character – a tough, mafioso boss type with an imposing presence. Sings.

Artists who are unfamiliar with Non-Union Extras and/or Understudies from within the Walnut Street Theatre School’s education performance program, details are provided below.

EXTRAS

• Are in the cast learning as part of the ensemble and perform in the show every performance / 8 shows per week. Rehearse full-time 6 days a week, plus tech before the run.

• Roles are non-speaking/dancing tracks, and understudy larger roles within the cast.

• Attend understudy rehearsals throughout the show’s run.

• Receive an expense stipend of $300/week for the duration of the production.

o Additional Rate: $50 a show if you perform as an understudy.

o Scholarship for free class at the Walnut Street Theatre School.

UNDERSTUDIES:

• Are “On Call” for a specific role in the cast and must be in town for the duration of the run of JERSEY BOYS – Sept 10 – Nov 3

• Learn/observe as much of the rehearsal process as you’d like on your own.

• Attend Final Dress Rehearsal– September 29

• 6 required understudy rehearsals during the show’s run –10/3, 10/4, 10/8, 10/10, 10/15, & 10/18- from 12:30-5:30

• Receive an expense stipend of $280 to cover any expenses in participating (parking for a day, etc.)

o Additional Rate: $50 a show if you perform as an understudy.

o Scholarship for a free class at the Walnut Street Theatre School.
