My Mother Once Read

Post Date: Jun 13, 2024

Seeking non-union actors to cast in various roles for a new children's musical, Hundred Acre Park, based on the original A.A. Milne books Winnie-the-Pooh and House at Pooh Corner. Specifically, we’re seeking performers for the following roles:

*Note - vocal ranges have yet to be solidified, and are subject to change based on casting.

Robin - An imaginative optimistic young child who’s lived in the city their whole life. Looking for an adult performer who could play a child. Mezzo

Pooh - Inquisitive, thoughtful, leader and friend to all. Portrayed by a puppet. Baritenor

Piglet - Soft, kind, and anxious. Portrayed by a puppet. Mezzo soprano

Tigger - Energetic, fast paced, bouncy, and a tad dumb. Portrayed by a puppet. Mezzo

Kanga/Roo - An intelligent, elegant, generous mother and her spontaneous, confident, and loud child. One performer will play both Kanga and Roo. Portrayed by a puppet. Mezzo soprano

Owl - A stuffy know-it-all with an obnoxiously large vocabulary, but is secretly a softie. Portrayed by a puppet. Talk/Sing

Project description:

Get lost in nature with Pooh, Piglet, and all your favorite friends in a new musical adaptation of A.A. Milne’s original Winnie-the-Pooh novels, where the Hundred Acre Wood becomes the Hundred Acre Park! Playful puppetry will bring these lovable toys to life once again for a new generation of young ones growing up in a city like Philadelphia!

This production reimagines the characters for the modern child living in a time of climate change and urbanization, asking the question of “how do we talk to children about climate change?”, all without losing any of the magic and whimsy that made these stories magical in the first place. From Pooh’s journey up a very tall tree to meet some bees, to Eeyore needing a birthday present, to the time nobody could remember the last time it rained this much, these vignettes will take the whole family on an adventure across this lively park, while giving children a safe context to help understand the rapidly changing world around them. Hundred Acre Park is a folksy musical walk through the park with puppetry, whimsy, and fun for young children and inner children alike.
