The Theatre Department within the School of Performing Arts seeks a Directing/Acting specialist with the experience and ability to develop curricula, programming, and recruitment related to diverse populations. Candidates from underrepresented groups are encouraged to apply.
Successful applicants can take advantage of extended long-term contracts with possible conversion to tenure. The position requires candidates with a terminal degree in a directly related field, or a substantial professional career. Candidates should demonstrate a proven or presumptive record of successful undergraduate teaching experience. Salary is commensurate with experience, plus a strong benefits package. Appointment beginning August 2025.
Responsibilities include: 4/4 teaching load in the following areas:
· Directing one production per year (plays and musicals), qualifying as a single teaching load.
· Teaching courses in Directing.
· Teaching courses in Acting.
Additional Job Requirements:
· Advising and recruitment of Theatre majors
· Service to the department; serving on university committees.
· Strong oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
· Ability to support the University’s Catholic Salesian mission and core values.
Other Related Skills (not required):
· Ability to create and teach special topics courses in candidate’s area of specialization.
· Experience in Devised Theatre & Musical Theatre
· Ability to teach theatre history/literature courses.
DeSales University’s Theatre Department offers a BA degree in Theatre with 110 majors in four tracks (Acting for Stage and Screen, Musical Theatre, Design and Technology, and Theatre Education) and 8 full time faculty members. There is opportunity for collaboration with the Dance and TV/Film departments within the School of Performing Arts. During the summer months the Pennsylvania Shakespeare Festival is in residence at The Labuda Center for the Performing Arts and is a possible venue for additional faculty development.
