Next Life Theatre Company is seeking a diverse cast of non-equity dancer/actors for the new dance-theater piece Carmilla: A Dance with Death.

Carmilla will be produced as a part of the 2024 Philadelphia Fringe Festival: September 27-29, 2024 at the Louis Bluver Theatre at the Drake.

Rehearsals begin on or around August 1st and run through August and September on primarily weekends, willing to accommodate schedules.

Synopsis:

Every night Laura goes to bed and dreams of a beautiful woman crawling into her bedroom. When Carmilla arrives on her doorstep after a freak accident, Laura and her Father uncover the truth about the intoxicating stranger.

Enter the vampiric nightclub the "Electric Chapel" and dance like the undead as Laura recounts her story of faith, danger, and discovery in a queer love story like you've never seen before.

Character Breakdown:

CARMILLA
An alluring, mysterious, and ageless vampire that falls in love with Laura. Female/Nonbinary Presenting. Any Ethnicity. Age 20-30. Light intimacy (Vampire Bites).

FATHER
Laura’s hyper religious father who’s only care in the world is to protect his daughter from the demons that haunt her. Male Presenting. Any Ethnicity. Age 25-50.

ENSEMBLE DANCERS (any age, gender ethnicity)
Club dancers and visual storytellers playing multiple roles throughout the story. Selective lines for some, majority non-speaking.

Seeking strong dancers for all roles.

Submission Requirements:

Please submit headshot, resume, and 1-3 minutes of dance (selections from solo or small group performance permitted, multiple styles encouraged) to this Google form. Optionally record this combination: 

To be considered for a principal role please submit a 1-2 minute contemporary monologue. Ensemble dancers are only required to submit a dance reel.

Salary

Actors will be a paid an equal split of the Next Life's box office revenue. Stage Management will be paid a flat fee plus percentage of Next Life's box office revenue.
