Choreographer - Alice by Heart

Solebury School seeks a talented and experienced choreographer who will bring the magical world of Alice by Heart to life in the winter musical. The choreographer will craft imaginative movements that complement the emotional depth and fantasy of this unique musical adaptation. This is a part-time, seasonal after-school program for the winter trimester (see dates below).

Essential Functions:
Develop and implement choreography for the production, Alice by Heart, working closely with the director, assistant director, and the student actors to ensure a cohesive vision for the performance
Teach and demonstrate choreography to students, ensuring they understand the steps, timing, and emotional intent.
Provide feedback to dancers to improve form, technique, and expression.
Lead choreography rehearsals three days a week from 3:30-5:15 p.m., with some flexibility on days
Attend two weekend rehearsals on February 2nd and February 16th from 10 a.m.-5 p.m.
Attend the final dress rehearsal on Presidents Day, February 17th from 10 a.m.-5 p.m.

Rehearsal Schedule:

• December 3 - December 19, 2024: Initial rehearsal block
• January 7, 2025 - February 19, 2025: Regular rehearsals resume after Winter Break
• February 20 - February 23, 2025: Performance dates

Qualifications:

• Proven experience as a choreographer, ideally with school or youth theater productions
• Strong ability to work with student dancers, nurturing their skills and confidence
• A creative vision that aligns with the whimsical and emotionally resonant tone of Alice by Heart
• Excellent communication and collaborative skills

Physical Requirements and Work Environment:

• Physical: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, reach for or otherwise move objects. Other activities could include balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, and standing
• Communication: Activities include seeing, hearing, and talking to express or exchange ideas and information
• Environmental conditions: Activities occur mostly inside and occasionally outside
