Character Descriptions:

All roles are open and Footlighters strongly encourages all performers to submit for ANY role with which they identify, regardless of type, gender, ability, race, ethnicity, sexuality, neurodiversity, and similarity to the source material or original broadway cast.

Beverly Weston (Late 60s) - An alcoholic at the end of his rope.

Violet Weston (Mid to late 60s) -  Addicted to many prescription drugs and often visibly under the influence. Has been spiraling for years, and we are seeing her at her climax. She is constantly pushing the ones she loves the most away.

Barbara Fordham (Mid 40s) - Violet’s favorite daughter. Strong-willed and always the one thrust into being in charge of the room–sometimes she takes that on herself. She likely fears that she will become Violet.

Bill Fordham (Mid to late 40s) - Barbara’s husband, although they are separated and he’s having an affair with a younger woman. He is a typical “good guy” who just doesn’t get what he’s doing wrong most of the time.

Jean Fordham (14–Prefer to cast 18+, but open to 16+) - Bill and Barbara’s daughter. She just doesn’t want to be here. Film Fanatic. She is the quiet observer who sees all and probably knows better than anyone what is going on with everyone in the family, but just minds her own business.

Ivy Weston (Mid 40s) - Violet’s middle daughter. She is constantly berated for not being feminine enough, and for not having a man. She is probably the most stable daughter, although she is treated as a bit of an outcast.

Karen Weston (Late 30s to early 40s) - Violet’s youngest daughter. She is desperately trying to hold onto her youth and to dreams of a great life far away from home. She truly misses so much because of her grasping for youth.

Mattie Fay Aiken (Mid 50s) - Violet’s sister. She is sweet and well-meaning. She always has an opinion and often shares it at all the wrong times.

Charlie Aiken (Mid to late 50s) - Mattie Fay’s husband. He just wants to enjoy the years he has left. He is caring, and honestly caught in the middle of a lot. However, we do see him lose it after being pushed to the edge.

“Little” Charles Aiken (Mid to late 30s) - Mattie Fay and Charlie’s son. He is clumsy and a bit frazzled. His parents, and the rest of the family, really hold that against him. He hasn’t really been given the chance or the faith to be able to grow up. Although he is fully capable of being an adult, he is being held back.

Johnna Monevata (20s to 40s, and ideally an Indigenous Woman) - Violet’s Housekeeper. Part of the Cheyenne Nation. She is a true caretaker and is good at her job. She, in many ways, holds the family and Violet together throughout the events of the play. She is calm and Collected at (almost) all times.

Steve Heidebrecht (Late 40s to early 50s) - Karen’s Fiance. Sleaze-ball. Very materialistic. Just a creep.

Sheriff Deon Gilbeau (MId to late 40s) - Town sheriff and an old friend of the family. Just an all-around good guy.
