Audition Requirements:
Director Annie Hnatko is seeking 8 women and 5 men for the roles listed below.

Please prepare 32 measures of a musical theater song in the style of the show. Please bring sheet music in the correct key with starting and ending points clearly marked. An accompanist will be provided. A cappella singing will not be permitted, however if you wish to use an accompaniment track, please contact the director in advance. Some auditions may be asked to do a cold reading from the script. Please note that microphones will NOT be used during this production.

Performance Dates:
Fridays and Saturdays, April 21st, 22nd, 28th, 29th & May 5th & 6th, 2023 at 8:00pm
Sundays, April 30th & May 7th 2023 at 2:00pm
*Additional performances may be added.

Rehearsal Dates:
Monday, Tuesday and Thursday evenings at 6:00pm
Wednesday April 12th at 6:00pm
Pick-Up Rehearsals Wednesday April 26th & May 3rd at 6:00pm
If cast, you will also be required to assist with Set & Tech Strike/Prep on Sunday April 19th at 4:30pm & Saturday April 25th OR Sunday April 26th at 10am

Brief Synopsis of Show
On the night of his 35th birthday, Robert contemplates his bachelor status. His friends explain the pros and cons of marriage over several drinks and dinner parties. The habitually single Robert is forced to question his adamant retention of the single life.

Roles:
Robert: The role of Robert has been pre-cast.

Harry: Male, Baritone, 30 – 45. Sarah's husband. He is a recovering alcoholic. Believes the advantages of marriage outweigh the disadvantages.

Peter: Male, Baritone, 30 – 45. Susan's husband. The perfect husband and ex-husband. He is very liberal in his view of relationships.

David: Male, Tenor, 30 – 45. Jenny's husband; relaxed and always in control. Believes a man should be married and that the sacrifice of freedom is worth what you get in return.

Paul: Male, Tenor, 25 – 35. Amy's fiancé. Patient with her neurotic nature. Fully commits to the idea of marriage and encourages Robert to do the same.

Larry: Male, Tenor, 45 – 65. Joanne's husband. Stoic and centered, but has moments of goofiness. Indulges his wife's behavior but knows when to put his foot down.

Sarah: Female, Alto, 30 – 40. Harry's hypercritical wife. She is an avid learner of karate and tends to overeat. Open, accepting, and loving.

Susan: Female, Mezzo, 25 – 35. A delicate southern belle. Peter's wife and ex-wife. Motherly in her affections towards Robert.

Jenny: Female, Soprano, 30 – 45. Quietly manipulative, simultaneously square and wise. Loves her husband, David, and will indulge him from time to time.

Amy: Female, Alto, 25 – 30. A frantic neurotic engaged to Paul but terrified of marriage. After a mental breakdown, she finally realizes that Paul is, in fact, her soulmate.

Joanne: Female, Alto, 45 – 60. Acerbic and demanding. Too old to be part of the young crowd but would not fit well with the older crowd. Puts on a brassy front that melts when she is alone with her husband Larry.

Marta: Female, Mezzo, 22 – 28. A girlfriend of Robert's. Intensely modern, seeking adventure and excitement in the City.

Kathy: Female, Mezzo, 30 – 40. A former girlfriend of Robert's, now considered a good friend. She plans to leave the City for a life of domesticity. Sweet and loving.

April: Female, Mezzo, 25 – 30. A girlfriend of Robert's. She is a flight attendant who came to New York to live in Radio City. Ditzy and adorable.

The Old Academy Players has provided continuous community theater entertainment since 1923 and is a non-profit community theater in East Falls neighborhood of Philadelphia. Constructed in 1819, the Old Academy building has been the OAP home since 1932. Old Academy Players is a member of the Greater Philadelphia Cultural Alliance. Most notable alumni include Tony Award-nominated actor Robert Prosky and Hollywood icon, Grace Kelly. Support is provided by the "Philadelphia Cultural Fund" and the "Sylvia W. and Randle M. Kauders Foundation".
