Audition for an important historical fiction entitled: I Kiss Your Hands - a Story of Hope, Rescue and Deliverance

Irena Sendler and her friends take on the NAZI War Machine. Can they save the children before the Germans destroy their city? This new work is a historical fiction about a real-life hero who helped save thousands! Come be a part of history.

ATTENTION: This play contains strong language, violence, torture, religious persecution, and frequent references to historical genocide. Please keep in mind the violent and potentially upsetting nature of the play’s subject matter when auditioning. 

CASTING BREAKDOWN: All roles are open. We acknowledge that the roles we list fall on a gender binary, but invite transgender and non-binary performers to audition for the roles they most identify with. We are seeking 10 energetic, dynamic performers to fill the following roles:

IRENA: 30’s-40’s, courageous and strong; a Catholic social worker from Warsaw who becomes the leader of a resistance cell helping Jewish children escape from the Warsaw ghetto

JANKA: 20’s-30’s, Irena’s friend and co-conspirator; idealistic, forthright and determined

KLARA: 20’s-30’s, Irena’s friend and co-conspirator; cerebral and thoughtful

BIETKA: 23, a young Jewish reporter whose past is connected with Irena’s

PAVEL: 20’s-30’s, in idealistic Polish soldier; loyal to his country, not the Germans

HENIA/ IRENA’S MOTHER: 35-50, a Jewish mother/ Irena’s elderly, frail mother

JOSEL/ DR DORBRACYNSKI: 35-50, a Jewish father/ a sympathizer of the Polish resistance

HANNA: 8-12, a young Jewish girl, the daughter of Henia and Josel

OFFICER: 30’s-50’s, a high-ranking Nazi officer

SERGEANT/GUARD: 20’s-30’s, a member of the SS

We will contact you with a time slot prior to audition night. If you are not able to attend in-person you may submit a self-tape via the audition form.
 

Performance Dates: 

  • Friday, September 8 at 7:30pm
  • Saturday, September 9 at 7:30pm
  • Sunday, September 10 at 2pm
  • Wednesday, September 13 at 7pm
  • NO PERFORMANCES September 15-17 in observance of Rosh Hashana
  • Wednesday, September 20 at 7pm
  • Friday, September 22 at 7:30pm
  • Saturday, September 23 at 2pm and 7:30pm
  • Sunday, September 24 at 2pm

Location:

Auditions, rehearsals, and performances will be held in-person at Chandler Hall in Newtown, PA (99 Barclay St, Newtown, PA). Plenty of off-street parking and accessible by Septa Regional Rail and Bus. There will be three 4-hour rehearsals a week, beginning July 8, with a full week of technical/dress rehearsals. Rehearsal and performance spaces are ADA accessible. Please let us know if you need accommodations.

All roles are non-equity and will be compensated with a small stipend following the show’s closing. Actors are asked to contribute to strike and are invited to participate in all production activities.

We encourage performers of all races and ethnicities, gender identities, sexualities, and abilities to audition. We also welcome new performers and performers looking to get back on stage. Please note this is a non-union, independently produced Fringe production.
