Act II Playhouse, the  professional, non-profit theater in the heart of bustling Ambler PA, is hiring an AEA Stage Manager for our upcoming production of The Outsider by Paul Slade Smith

  • The Outsider key dates
    • Rehearsals start on Tuesday, September 17th, 2024
    • Tech rehearsals: October 4th - 6th
    • Previews: October 8th - 10th
    • Opening Night: Friday, October 11th, 2024
    • Scheduled Closing: Sunday, November 3rd, 2024
    • Possible Extension: November 10th, 2024


  • Maintain Equity standards under category SPT 8.
  • Report directly to the Production Manager and Director.
  • Pre-production - communicate with cast i.e. conflicts to create and maintain rehearsal schedules in coordination with the director. 
  • Time, track, and enforce breaks during rehearsals through tech.
  • Throughout the process, send daily calls, keep detailed rehearsal and performance reports.
  • Act as a point of contact and foster clear communication between cast, production, and designers.
  • Keep a list of your production responsibilities and oversee/manage the responsibilities of your ASM. 
  • This position requires working hours that include weekdays, nights and weekends.

Preferred Skills & Attributes:

  • Membership in Actors’ Equity Association (AEA) required.
  • Experience with and knowledge of equity standards, work experience as an AEA stage Manager in a professional theater setting.
  • Ability to multitask and meet deadlines in a dynamic, creative environment.
  • A proven track record of experience working in many roles backstage preferred.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills with an attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to create and maintain a clean and welcoming environment for our casts and designers.
  • A passion for live performance and the arts.
  • We’re looking for the person who has all the answers or isn’t afraid to ask for them.

This is an AEA SPT8 contract position with a rate of $857 per week from prep week to closing plus a tech bump and $100 per week  during performance weeks for running the light board.
